Address it in the usual way, with the country’s name at the bottom. At the top of the envelope print “BY AIR MAIL” in fairly large letters.
The postage will cost 90 cents, unless it is a very heavy letter, in which case you should have it weighed at a Post Office and they will tell you the cost.
You can just mail it as you would mail any letter.

The mail goes to postal boxes. I sent a letter to a friend in Accra..in a months time I got the letter back….I did not put my friends phone number on it so he could be called to pick up the letter as I sent it to his residence.. I sent a card and it only cost me 84 cents.
I understand they don’t have delivery to there houses like we do here in the USA
    Hope this helps

I too send plenty letters to Africa from the US and they do go to p.o. boxes and are picked up. I will be surprised when I touch down in any African country and see a mailman dropping mail at all the homes one day. It may be happening in Africa but I have not seen it. As the stamp prices just increased for 1st class, I do think the international mail is still 84 cents for the first ounce of weight. I was told so by a postal worker a few days ago when I posted a letter to Africa.
In Africa you have to have a good working relationship with the postal workers that handle your mail box regularly(bribery on a small scale). As they will send your mail back if you take too long to pick it up.
In Ghana, when you send someone a package from the US, you pay on this end and they pay to receive it on their end. Which may delay the package being picked up sometimes, based on what is in their pockets.
In many African countries the postal workers are very corrupt and bribery-oriented. When they inspect one’s package such as gifts from abroad, they will want to keep some of what they see and sometimes do right in front of the receiver. As if the person getting the goods is poor and does not have the funds to pay, this activity will get them their package anyway(3rd world business).

take it to the post office and they will make sure you have enough postage on the letter.
