How can I eliminate “line noise” or “hum” from my home audio system? I have a G4 and a DVD player plugged in.

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

The Mac G4 is connected to the amplifier via a USB audio device that converts to RCA output, then runs into the CD input of the amp. The DVD/VCR combo unit connects to the VCR input on the amp. I have a single RCA line running the video signal from the “monitor” output of the amp into the TV. I get the hum sound on the CD channel, as well as a series of moving vertical lines in the TV picture itself while playing a DVD. If I disconnect the USB device, the noise disappears. Likewise while playing music off of the Mac G4, if I disconnect the RCA line into the TV, the noise disappears. But when they are both connected, I’ve got the noise. What is going on here?

My Wii is making a noise whenever I have a disc in it?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

My Wii is only about 2 months old and I never had a problem with it but suddenly today it started to making a buzzing/humming noise if I have a game in it. Even if I wasn’t playing the game it would make the noise. I don’t think this is normal. Any suggestions on how to stop the noise or is it something serious?

What can I do to minimise the noise my PC makes?

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

I am thinking about keeping my laptop PC on all the time and turning it into a server PC. I am going to keep it in my bedroom where it is safe but I can’t get to sleep because of the constant noise my laptop gives when it is running. I know it sounds stupid because it is a quiet sound but I just can’t get to sleep. What can I do?

Thanks.

How do I stop the hard drive from making noise?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

On my hp dv6500t there is a small gap between my hard drive tray and the actual machine. When I try to load a CD it just makes a revving noise. I can stop the noise by pushing up on it so it is flush with the system.

Does anyone have a suggestion of what I should do?

Does anyone hear a high pitched noise in their ear sometimes?

Monday, September 14th, 2009

I can’t tell if it’s inside my ears or an external noise. However, sometimes I hear it when I’m in a quiet room. Assuming, that it’s inside my ear, what could possibly be causing it? It’s very high pitched and lasts a couple of seconds. It happens randomly, sporadically.

My speakers/power outlet makes a static noise then computer automatically turns off?

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

It does it numerous times when I use my computer. But its not a hot day today its 23 degrees. My speakers makes this static noise and so does the power outlet.. Its kind of scary. But I have to wait a moment before I can turn my computer back on, when I do turn it on its completely normal. But its kind of getting on my nerves. What is going on? Why is my computer doing this? Help. Thanks in advance.

Should restaurants be cited or shut down due to excessive noise?

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Our local paper reviews restaurants on cost, food quality and noise level. Some are so loud that normal conversation is impossible. You have to shout at your dining partner to be heard.

I think such establishments should be cited until the noise level is brought down, and in the worst cases, forced to close down. It really is a public health hazard (stress, damaged hearing)
S Bear, maybe we should cite the customers then. Something needs to be done!
